As we emerge from lockdown and deal with a very uncertain world, there are opportunities as well as challenges for our communities. Our communities and particularly diverse groups, are having to cope with health service changes due to Long COVID and facilitated by the NHS Reset programme. As a regional patient group, our efforts are focused on working with system leaders in various organisations, including Integrated Care Systems (ICS) and Health and Care Partnerships, to maintain the patient & public voice throughout the changes.
The purpose of a partnership, is to share health policy and guidance and develop a collective patient and carer voice in response to our continually changing health landscape. The ICS will develop further partnerships to include local Government and Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, who will have a role in delivering services in primary care. There will be a new ICS NHS legislative body and PLACE organisations, responsible for local population health needs.
It is against this background that we have the opportunity to develop a ‘collaborative voice’ to influence and shape the proposed changes

African Families in the UK
AFiUK primarily exists to serve the interests of African and other ethnic minority families where the parents were born and educated overseas, while their children have been born in the UK, often creating a clash of cultural identities for all concerned. Particularly, these children and young people do not identify either with their parents’ culture, nor that of the UK; instead they are evolving a new culture and identity, something that’s fresh and unique to themselves: a third culture.
The vision of AFiUK is to equip African and other ethnic minority families in the UK to take their rightful place as fruitful members of our society, and to make the most of the available opportunities in their adopted country without adversely affecting the strong family and community networks that Africans are known for.
To be the one-stop place for families of African and other ethnic minority origin, resident in the UK, seeking advice or information, on matters relating to parenting, children’s education and any family-friendly activities that enrich family life. To offer consultation and expert knowledge to professionals and practitioners from Local Authorities and other family support agencies.
