Onche Godwin Daudu
Chair, East of England Citizens' Senate. I have spent 27 years in Hospitality/Retail Management. I am the Operations Manager for the African Families in the UK (AFiUK) CIC (Colchester and Tendring) and joined the East of England Citizens' Senate in 2021.
About Me
I have lived in the United Kingdom for the last 31 years of my life, and I am originally from Nigeria. I am a Trustee/Director of Isedale Wa (Our Heriitage) CIC and the Operations Manager of the African Families in the UK (AFiUK) CIC (responsible for Colchester and Tendring). Transferable skills from my past professional life will be very useful in my role as the Chair of the Citizens Senate and this includes my lived experience of the historic inequalities of access to social and health services. My skills include being a Recruitment and Training Manager, Commercial Awareness/Events Management Performance Coach and Performance Review and Individual Development Planner, General Manager of a business that generated about £1 million annually (and £600,000 in profit). If you know anything about the hospitality and retail sector, you will appreciate how important customer service and the customer voice is to the success of any business. I bring this knowledge to the Citizens' Senate in our mandate to ensuring the Patients Voice is heard loud and clear.
I am also a newly qualified Specialist Counsellor. The African Families in the UK (AFiUK) CIC is a Voluntary and Community Interest Organisation with a mission to “equip, build, and resource African heritage and ethnic minority families with the skills and knowledge to effectively navigate their third lived experience. Isedale Wa is a non-profit organisation ensuring that cultural sensitivities are understood, appreciated and exist respectfully with other cultures to enhance diversity and inclusion.
My main interest in the Citizens' Senate is to be a significant part of the group in its critical friend objective, push forward the innovation agenda of Eastern AHSN and bring to bear the voices of the people in my community as the health policies, opportunities to access and decisions are being made.
To learn from the library of knowledge within the group is also a reason for my involvement.
